Agreeing to these terms
Using FileXL means accepting these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.
These Terms of Service form an agreement between you and FileXL covering your use of https://www.filexl.com and every service we operate there. By uploading a file, downloading one, creating an account, or otherwise using FileXL, you agree to them.
They should be read together with our Privacy Policy and DMCA Policy, which are incorporated by reference.
If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you confirm you have the authority to bind that company.
What FileXL provides
Two ways to send files: upload and share a link, or send it directly browser to browser.
- Hosted transfer — you upload a file, we store it temporarily, and whoever holds the download link can retrieve it until it expires.
- Peer-to-peer transfer — the file travels directly between two browsers over an encrypted connection. Nothing is stored on our servers.
- Dropzone — a page you share so others can send files to you.
- Delivery options — share links, QR codes, access codes, email delivery, scheduled sending and self-destructing transfers.
- Presentation — password protection, custom download URLs, custom branding and voice notes.
We may add, change or withdraw features. Where a change materially reduces what a paid plan provides, we will give notice as described in Section 14.
Limits and expiry
10 GB free without an account. Files delete themselves after 14 days and cannot be brought back.
| Tier | Per transfer | Storage | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| No account | 10 GB | — | 14 days |
| Free account | 15 GB | 100 GB | 14 days |
| Premium | 50 GB | Per plan | 30 days |
| Peer-to-peer | No limit | Nothing stored | Not applicable |
Expiry is permanent
When a transfer expires it is deleted permanently and automatically. We cannot recover an expired file, and no support request can restore one. This is deliberate — it is what stops your files accumulating on our servers indefinitely.
Always keep your own copy of anything you send. Treat FileXL the way you would treat the post: a way to get something from A to B, not a place to store the only copy.
Fair use
These limits assume normal use by a person or organisation sending files. We may apply rate limits, and may suspend accounts that automate uploads at a scale that degrades the service for others, resell capacity without agreement, or attempt to circumvent limits through multiple accounts.
Accounts
Optional. If you make one, keep the password safe and give us accurate details.
You do not need an account to use FileXL. If you create one, you agree to provide accurate information, keep your password confidential, and take responsibility for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe it has been compromised.
You must be at least 13 years old, or older where your local law sets a higher age. You may close your account at any time; see the Privacy Policy for what happens to your data afterwards.
Acceptable use
Do not upload anything illegal, harmful, or that is not yours to share.
You must not upload or share
- Material that infringes copyright, trademarks, patents or trade secrets you do not hold rights to.
- Content that sexually exploits or endangers children, in any form. We report this to the relevant authorities without exception.
- Malware, ransomware, spyware, or code designed to damage or gain unauthorised access to systems.
- Content that incites violence, terrorism, or hatred against people on the basis of who they are.
- Material that harasses, threatens, defames or invades the privacy of another person.
- Personal or financial data obtained unlawfully, including breached credentials or stolen payment details.
- Anything unlawful under the laws that apply to you or to us.
You must not use FileXL to
- Send spam, run phishing campaigns, or impersonate another person or organisation.
- Use download links as hosting for a public website, application or content delivery network.
- Probe, scan, or attempt to breach the security of the service or any other user's transfers.
- Access transfers you were not given a link to, or attempt to enumerate download URLs.
- Interfere with the service through automated traffic, denial of service, or circumvention of limits.
- Resell or redistribute the service without a written agreement with us.
Enforcement
We may remove content and suspend or terminate access where we reasonably believe these rules have been broken. Where the law requires it, or where there is a risk to someone's safety, we report to the relevant authorities. Accounts terminated for serious breaches are not refunded.
To report a transfer that breaches these rules, use the contact page and include the download link.
Who owns what
Your files stay yours. We get only the temporary permission needed to deliver them, and it ends when the file is deleted.
Your content
You keep all ownership and intellectual property rights in the files you upload. Uploading a file grants FileXL a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to store, copy and transmit that file solely to operate the service and deliver it to the people you share it with.
That licence exists only so we can technically do what you asked. It does not permit us to publish your files, use them in marketing, sell them, or use them to train machine learning models. It ends automatically when the file is deleted.
You confirm that you own the content you upload or have permission to share it, and that doing so breaks no law and no one else's rights.
Our content
The FileXL name, logo, site design, and software are owned by us and protected by intellectual property law. These terms grant you the right to use the service, not to copy, modify, reverse-engineer or redistribute it.
Copyright and DMCA
If someone shares your copyrighted work without permission, tell us and we will remove it.
We respect intellectual property rights and expect our users to do the same. If you believe material accessible through FileXL infringes your copyright, send a notice as described in our DMCA Policy. Valid notices are acted on promptly.
We operate a repeat infringer policy: accounts that are the subject of repeated valid notices are terminated.
Privacy and security
Files are private to whoever holds the link. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
- Transfers are encrypted in transit with TLS 1.2 or higher and at rest with AES-256.
- Peer-to-peer transfers use DTLS with AES-GCM (mandatory in WebRTC) and never reach our servers.
- Download links contain a randomly generated identifier and are not listed, indexed or guessable.
- Anyone holding a download link can download the file. Share links only with people you intend to receive the file, and use password protection for sensitive material.
Our Privacy Policy sets out exactly what we collect, who can access files, and how long anything is kept.
Paid plans
Plans renew until you cancel. Cancel any time and you keep the plan until the period ends.
- Prices and inclusions are shown on the plans page and are payable in advance.
- Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period unless cancelled before the renewal date.
- You can cancel at any time from your account. Cancellation stops future renewals; your plan continues until the end of the period already paid for.
- Payments are processed by a third-party provider. We never receive or store your card details.
- Where prices change, existing subscribers are given at least 30 days' notice before the new price applies.
- Refunds are handled in line with the refund terms shown at purchase and with any statutory rights you have.
Availability
We work hard to stay up but cannot promise perfection. Do not rely on us as the only copy of anything.
FileXL is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular file will remain accessible for its full retention period. Maintenance, infrastructure failures, network conditions and events outside our control can all interrupt service.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Liability
If something goes wrong, our liability is limited — usually to what you paid us.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, FileXL is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for loss of profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the service.
Our total aggregate liability arising out of these terms is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or USD 50.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
You agree to indemnify FileXL against claims arising from content you upload or from your breach of these terms.
Suspension and termination
You can stop any time. We can suspend accounts that break the rules.
You may stop using FileXL at any time and close your account from your account settings.
We may suspend or terminate access, with or without notice, where we reasonably believe you have breached these terms, where required by law, or where continued access poses a risk to the service or to other users. On termination, your right to use the service ends immediately and stored files may be deleted.
The sections on ownership, liability, indemnity and governing law survive termination.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Pakistan.
These terms are governed by the laws of Pakistan, without regard to conflict of law rules. The courts of Pakistan have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from them, except where mandatory consumer protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings locally.
If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
Changes to these terms
We will give 30 days' notice before any material change.
We may revise these terms as the service develops or the law changes. The "last updated" date at the top always shows the current version. For material changes we will give at least 30 days' notice through a notice on the site and, for account holders, by email. Continuing to use FileXL after a change takes effect means you accept the revised terms; if you do not, you should stop using the service and may close your account.
