Why Password Protect?

Because a download link is a key, and sometimes you need two locks on the door.

Zero-Knowledge Defense

We store passwords as salted, one-way hashes. Even our engineers cannot bypass or retrieve a forgotten password. Your secret stays yours.

Split-Channel Sharing

Send the download link via email, and text the password via SMS. Even if an inbox is compromised, the attacker still cannot access the files.

Accident-Proof

Ever forwarded an email to the wrong person? If your transfer is password-protected, human error won't result in a catastrophic data leak.

Secure your files in seconds

  1. Queue Your File

Drag and drop your sensitive documents onto the FileXL upload area.

  2. Set the Lock

Click the Advanced tab, toggle Password Protection, and enter a strong password. You can also add an optional hint.

  3. Share Safely

Send the download link. The file stays locked behind a cryptographic gate until the exact password is provided.

When to use Password Protection

Legal & Contracts

When sending NDAs, signed contracts, or legal discovery documents to clients, ensuring that only the intended signatory can view the contents is paramount to maintaining attorney-client privilege.

Financial Records

Accountants and tax professionals transferring tax returns, bank statements, or payroll data must comply with strict privacy regulations. Password protection adds necessary compliance architecture.

Unreleased Media

Agencies sending final video renders or unreleased audio tracks to stakeholders. Preventing leaks of unreleased IP by locking the payload behind a password protects commercial value.

Personal Identity Data

Sending a scan of your passport, driver's license, or medical records to a landlord or employer. A leaked link without a password could lead directly to identity theft.

Common Questions

No. We store passwords as salted, one-way hashes. This means we cannot read your password, retrieve it, or bypass it under any circumstances.

If the password is lost, the file cannot be accessed. Because we only store a cryptographic hash, our support team cannot recover it for you. You will need to upload the file again and create a new link.

Yes. All files are encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3 and encrypted at rest using AES-256. Password protection acts as an additional access gate before the decryption process is allowed to begin.

Confidentiality guaranteed.
