What is a WebP file?
WebP is an image format created by Google for the web. It makes images smaller than JPG or PNG at similar quality and supports transparency and animation. Modern browsers show it fine, but many older programs, editors and upload forms cannot open it.
Is this WebP to PNG converter really free?
Yes. It is free, there is no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit set by us. Convert as many images as your device can handle.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser, on your own device. Your images are not sent to FileXL or any other server, so it is safe for private or client work.
Does the PNG keep the transparent background?
Yes. PNG supports transparency, so a WebP with a transparent background becomes a PNG with the same transparent background. If you switch to JPG, transparent areas are filled with white because JPG has no transparency.
Will I lose quality converting WebP to PNG?
No further quality is lost. PNG is a lossless format, so it stores exactly the pixels your browser decodes from the WebP. If the original WebP was saved with lossy compression, its existing compression marks stay, but the conversion itself adds none.
Why is the PNG bigger than my WebP file?
WebP compresses images much more efficiently than PNG, so the same picture usually takes up two to five times more space as a PNG. That is the price of a lossless file that opens everywhere. If you only need a small file for sharing, choose JPG.
Can I convert many WebP files at once?

What happens to animated WebP files?
The converter saves the first frame as a still PNG. Standard PNG does not support animation, so animated WebP files cannot be kept as moving images.

Yes. Switch the format above from PNG to JPG, and adjust the quality slider if you like. JPG files are smaller than PNG, but they do not keep transparency.

We do not set one. Because everything happens on your device, the limit is your device memory. Very large images can take a moment, and phones may struggle with images of many megapixels.
